Abstract: Flexibility is by now a crucial requirement for all factories, due to the sudden changes of technologies and market conditions. Therefore, all production systems should be more and more automatized, but they need to be adequately integrated inside the workcells. This paper deals with the design and implementation of a flexible robotized cell with a modular structure, for automation of a press for cast products. Firstly, the process to be automatized is off-line programmed and simulated. This allows to check for collisions and helps in designing many mechanical modules implemented ad hoc in order to automatize the process. Finally, the use of a vision system for identification of the cast pieces is presented.
