Marco Giovagnoni si è laureato presso l'Università di Genova in ingegneria civile nel 1979. Nel periodo 1979-1983 ha lavorato dapprima presso Honeywell Information Systems nel laboratorio di ricerca e sviluppo di Pregnana Milanese ed in seguito presso Italimpianti nella sede di Genova. Dal 1984 al 1987 è stato ricercatore di "Misure meccaniche e termiche" presso l'Istituto di meccanica applicata alle macchine dell'Università di Padova e nel periodo 1987-1994 è stato professore associato di "Meccanica applicata alle macchine" presso l'Istituto di meccanica teorica ed applicata dell'Università di Udine. Attualmente è professore ordinario di "Meccanica delle vibrazioni" presso il Dipartimento di ingegneria elettrica, gestionale e meccanica dell'Università di Udine - dipartimento del quale è stato direttore nel triennio 2001/2003 - ed è titolare di contratti di collaborazione con industrie del Friuli, tra le quali Electrolux Home Products Italy, per problemi di vibrazione nei sistemi meccanici.
