description: The objective of the RIME project is to demonstrate the feasibility of a new approach to medical robotics by means of a facility and of one or more working, although not optimized, prototypes. This new structured approach is driven by the requirements specified by surgeons rather than by the technical features of the manipulators available on the market, and allows overcoming the clear limitations affecting the medical robotic systems currently employed. Extensive evidences of these limitations can be found in the literature.
