PlasCoat is the prototype of an automated defect detection systems for coated plastic components for the automotive industry. The main goal of the prototype was the proof of concept of the inspection over curved surfaces. This result was obtained thanks to the development of a novel algorithm for the synthesis of a dual-curvature mirror surface, which can be used to convey the light rays on the surface to be inspected. With the aim of this mirror, the curved surface can be illuminated with a perfect reflection effect. The algorithm was simplified to validate the inspection process by using a single-degree-of-freedom deformable mirror.
